cedar oil
Classification:
Oil for oil lens
Turn the light to its maximum intensity (concentrator raised, aperture fully open). Turn the coarse adjuster to raise the lens barrel, and put 1 small drop of cedar oil or paraffin oil (not too much, do not spread it) on the specimen directly below the objective lens.
Cedar oil is a special oil for oil lenses. Dropping a liquid with a refractive index of 1.5 under the 100x oil lens can significantly increase the resolution of the oil lens and improve the observation effect of the microscope. The refractive index of cedar oil is 1.52, which is the best. Oil for microscope oil lenses.
Generally, in addition to cedar oil, you can also use paraffin oil or glycerin. It is best not to use other oils, because most microscope lenses are coated. Using other oils may damage the lens.
In fact, the purpose of using an oil lens in a microscope is to ensure that the refractive index of light is close to that of glass, thus fully ensuring that light is reduced in refraction. For example, if cedar oil (n=1.515) or paraffin oil or glycerin, which is similar to the refractive index of glass (n=1.52), is added between the lens and the glass, the light entering the oil lens will increase, the brightness of the field of view will be enhanced, and the object image will be clear.
When dripping the immersion solution, try to avoid the formation of bubbles. If bubbles are formed, use the tip of a dissecting needle to push the bubbles aside to avoid affecting the observation.
Directly drop it on the sample. Before doing this, please check whether the 100 objective lens is an oil lens (that is, there is an OIL logo on the lens). Then insert the 100X objective lens into the specimen and make contact with the cedar oil. Move the specimen slightly left and right to make the objective lens and specimen Make even contact (that is, make the medium between the objective lens and the specimen be cedar oil instead of air), and then use fine adjustment to focus accurately. After use, clean the lens with xylene. If xylene is not available, use a mixture of alcohol and ether (7:3)
